Future Events

This Sunday I attended the 50th Anniversary Celebration of Watford's wonderful Pump House Theatre and after singing a few songs on the main stage caught top with Watford MP Dean Russell and Pump House Chairman Lee Farman. It was a brilliant day and a real joy to be part of. Here's to the next 50 years!

And if you'd like to hear me singing some of my Great American Songbook favourites, along with a generous dollop of Disney, head over to the Garden Rooms Bar and Kitchen this Thursday 28th April where I'll be swinging away from 7pm till 9.30pm. It's a free event so grab yourself a drink and a bite to eat and enjoy!

Speaking of the Garden Rooms, our April event (photo below) was a true delight and I'm thrilled to announce that from June we'll be there hosting a Watford Dial Up on the last Saturday of every month, alongside our Kitchen Croxley events on the second Friday. More details on the Future Events tab, so hopefully see you at one or both! Much love, Alex xx

Future Events

I was delighted to meet Watford Elected Mayor Peter Taylor yesterday to discuss Watford's cultural scene and The Dial Up's contribution to our town's community and creativity. It was great to have his support for our new venture. The Dial Up has partnered with the gorgeous Garden Rooms on Market Street, Central Watford, to bring our inimitable brand of open mic back into the heart of the town.

Firstly, 3- 6pm on Saturday 23rd April we're holding a Dial Up Open Mic. Tickets are as ever a £5 donation and everyone who wants a performance spot is guaranteed one, whatever your creative interest. Then, 7- 9.30pm on Thursday 28th April I'll be taking to the stage in my jazz singer guise, sharing a couple of hours of tunes from my beloved Great American Songbook. Do come along to this FREE EVENT, get yourself a drink and a bite to eat, sit back, relax and enjoy!

And of course The Kitchen Croxley Dial Up is still going monthly! Join us for our next event 7.30pm on Friday 13th May where the theme will be Unlucky for Some! Hope to see you there :-) xx

Tickets are as ever a £5 donation and everyone who wants a performance spot is guaranteed one, whatever your creative interest.

The Dial Up is Finalist at Watford Audentior Awards!

The Dial Up was a finalist at this year's Watford Audentior Awards! Our category was the Chairman's Prize for Culture and we were up against two wonderful competitors, Dan Tien Drama and Dance School and Amma Gyan with the Anamartis Studio, a venue in which we have actually hosted a couple of Dial Ups! So it was a pleasure to see Amma win the overall award, and it was truly a marvellous evening from start to finish. Thank you to everyone who nominated The Dial Up and made this moment of recognition with Deputy Mayor Aga Dychton, Watford Elected Mayor Peter Taylor, my husband, and Chair of Watford Council Bilqees Mauthoor possible. Here's to a glittering 2022!

About this event

Central London Humanists (CLH) are pleased to welcome Alexander Williams, poet, writer, teacher and singer, as he guides us through a delightful evening of poetry from his collection Secular Verses, and then opens the floor for us to share our own or our favourite poems. The event will take place online on Zoom on April 13, 2022, from 7 pm to 9 pm.

Bring your favourite poems to share with the rest, write your own, or just sit down and enjoy an evening of poetry reading and open-mic. In the first half of the event, Alexander will share poems from his recent collection Secular Verses, many of which have been published in Humanistically Speaking Magazine's Poet's Corner.

Then in the second half, he will open the floor for everyone to share poems of their choice, be they favourite poems, original work, or rapid responses to his interval writing activity.
